" The requirement was for a floor that was visually appealing, yet at the same time very hard-wearing and easy to maintain. "

The new “Wuhle Anger” residential estate in Berlin-Marzahn offers urban intergenerational living. The Berlin-Brandenburg Housing Cooperative eG has based its planning closely on the tenants’ interests – from the flooring right through to the leisure activities on offer in the tenants’ lounge.

Designer flooring for living areas and communal spaces

Various housing and care options have been created for older co-operative members who wish to remain in the neighbourhood but require some support. When fitting out the rooms, flats and communal areas, the planners opted for designer flooring from objectflor.

The requirement was for a floor covering that combines a homely look with the demands of everyday use. In the living areas, two oak designs from the EXPONA DOMESTIC collection were used, which, with their warm colour tones, contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. For the communal areas of the residents’ lounge, a slate-effect finish was chosen. The designs draw on natural materials such as wood and stone. Textured surfaces and modern printing techniques enhance the authentic look of the designs.

Design floor coverings also offer practical features for residential construction when it comes to day-to-day maintenance. Depending on the product and intended use, they can be maintained by regular sweeping or vacuuming, as well as damp cleaning as required. This makes them suitable for living and communal areas with varying usage requirements.

Rubber flooring with a striking design

The planners of the residential quarter created distinctive accents through a high-contrast colour scheme in the corridors and stairwells. Shades of red and grey characterise the design concept of the rubber flooring and are also reflected in the wall finishes.

For the brightly designed rooms of the “Quartier Kita”, the choice fell on a light-coloured rubber flooring with a smooth surface and a fine, multi-coloured grain: ARTIGO GRANTIO G363.

The surface finish facilitates cleaning and maintenance and helps to protect the surface from the stresses of daily use. The flooring thus combines a understated design with product-specific properties suited to use in nursery rooms.
