Travelling exhibition ‘Parametric Tower Research’ by Zaha Hadid
" At Zaha Hadid’s “Parametric Tower Research” exhibition in Cologne, the exhibits and the exhibition design engage in a fascinating dialogue. "
ARTIGO rubber flooring as part of an extraordinary architectural installation
The ‘Parametric Tower Research’ exhibition by Zaha Hadid Architects at the AIT-ArchitekturSalon in Cologne demonstrated just how closely architecture, design and spatial staging can be intertwined. As part of imm cologne 2012, the retrospective showcased a selection of the architectural practice’s international projects and studies. Models, plans and multimedia presentations provided insights into the design methodology of parametricism and the development of new high-rise typologies.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition was the interplay between the exhibits and their specially designed presentation environment. The floor, walls and ceiling merged with tables and plinths to form a seamless scenography in black and white. The original spatial elements receded into the background behind black fabrics, white membranes, silver-coloured drawings and animated projections.
ARTIGO MULTIFLOOR ND UNI: flooring as a unifying element
For this extraordinary installation, objectflor supplied the black rubber flooring ARTIGO MULTIFLOOR ND UNI. White, amorphously shaped elements on the dark floor surface echoed the design language of the models on display and the presentation tables, whilst also creating a link to the wall design. The floor thus became an integral part of the exhibition concept.
The exhibition highlighted Zaha Hadid Architects’ design approach of conceiving architecture and design across different scales – from individual objects to large-scale urban planning. The exhibition was shown in Cologne in 2012 and was subsequently due to travel to Hamburg, Munich and Rotterdam.
