The right environment for cutting-edge research
" In hospitals and research facilities, there are always areas with more demanding requirements, which is why we sought a rubber flooring solution that would meet these needs whilst also allowing for a consistent floor design. " – Thorben Damm
Over 8,000 square metres of rubber: objectflor has fitted the state-of-the-art Medical Research Centre I at Düsseldorf University Hospital with robust, high-quality floor coverings.
Cutting-edge research requires building infrastructure of the highest standard. That is why the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has funded the construction of a new research centre that brings together 14 clinics and institutes under one roof for Düsseldorf University Hospital. Across more than 8,000 square metres, up to 400 staff are dedicated to excellence in research and patient care. The laboratories were built to the very latest standards and comply with S2 safety requirements under the Genetic Engineering Act. The architectural firm RDS Partner, which specialises in healthcare and research buildings, has realised the new building – which was ready for occupation in the third quarter of 2022 – on the site of Düsseldorf University Hospital.
Versatile rubber flooring as the ideal solution
Rubber floor coverings from the ARTIGO GRANITO collection have been installed throughout the research centre. This is a very robust and durable product, which features a highly attractive design with modern colours, a smooth surface and a fine, multi-coloured grain. For Arne Thorben Damm of RDS Partner, the versatility of the flooring was a decisive factor: “In hospitals and research facilities, there are always areas with higher demands, which is why we were looking for a rubber flooring that offers appropriate solutions whilst also enabling a consistent floor design.” When it comes to enhanced protection against dirt and scratches, GRANITO – with an additional post-vulcanisation treatment for a particularly dense and resilient surface – is the right choice. This flooring was the planners’ primary choice for the new building in Düsseldorf – in a light grey shade. For the laboratories housing sensitive technical equipment, ESD flooring was essential to prevent damage caused by electrostatic discharges. The GRANITO product range also offers this feature. The rubber floors are, amongst other things, Cradle to Cradle certified and carry the Blue Angel label.
