The best medical care in a relaxing atmosphere
" Special requirements call for special floor coverings. The need for conductive flooring in high-tech therapy rooms usually presents the challenge that floor coverings of different colours have to be laid. " – Architect Silke Haremsa
Plenty of light, green walls and a warm, wood-effect finish: an oncology and radiotherapy practice in the Ruhr region demonstrates the impact and power of patient-friendly, anxiety-free spaces.
Modern architecture and a harmonious concept for materials and colours are the hallmarks of the newly built tumour treatment centre in Recklinghausen. The architectural practice ‘sektor 3 architekten’ developed a design featuring a symmetrically structured cube with dynamic projections and recesses. With 2,000 square metres dedicated to the radiotherapy centre and a further 800 square metres for the oncology centre, the new building offers a generous amount of space. In keeping with the building’s shape and the medical services it provides, the new centre bears the name: OncoCubus.
Carefully coordinated floor coverings
Inside, the architects placed great emphasis on a prestigious interior design to soften the cube’s geometric rigour. The large windows flood the rooms with light. The green walls create a positive atmosphere for patients in the treatment rooms. The uniform wooden surfaces of the furniture blend seamlessly with the carefully coordinated floor coverings and wall colours. In the passageways and waiting areas, designer floor coverings from the EXPONA COMMERCIAL collection by objectflor have been used. The 4034 Light Elm finish creates a bright and warm ambience. For the therapy rooms, a floor covering was sought that met specific functional requirements. This is where the POLYFLOR PALETTONE collection, with its 8607 Dove Tail finish, really comes into its own. The chosen flooring is available in various finishes, including an SD conductive version. Architect Silke Haremsa of sektor 3 architekten is extremely satisfied with the result and would choose the same floor coverings again without hesitation. “Special requirements call for special floor coverings. The need for conductive flooring in high-tech therapy rooms usually presents the challenge of having to install coverings of different colours. This is where objectflor really stood out, both technically and in terms of design. The therapy rooms were given a consistent flooring appearance, regardless of the flooring’s conductivity.”
