Small Animal Clinic in Wiesbaden
" Our aim was to choose genuine ‘feel-good materials’ for the floor. " – Heiko Gruber, interior designer
Functional design for a veterinary clinic
Design is not just about aesthetics; it is also about sensibly combining form and function. This is demonstrated by the concept for a veterinary clinic in Wiesbaden, which was realised by the architectural practice i21. The clinic treats many animals with limited mobility. Consequently, the choice of flooring played a key role. In addition to creating a homely atmosphere, requirements regarding slip resistance, durability and ease of daily cleaning also had to be taken into account.
At the same time, the flooring needed to accommodate the working conditions of the clinic staff. As many treatments are carried out whilst standing, the properties of the flooring were also relevant to the design of the treatment rooms.
Designer flooring combined with coloured rubber flooring
In the treatment rooms, the KAYAR rubber flooring from ARTIGO echoes the fresh green of the design concept. Incorporated coconut fibres give the surface a distinctive texture and enhance the flooring’s unique appearance.
The combination of different flooring materials and colours divides the rooms and creates a varied design concept. The acoustic properties of the flooring system were also taken into account during the planning stage.
Interior designer Heiko Gruber is very pleased with the chosen solution: “Our aim was to select genuine ‘feel-good materials’ for the flooring. Of course, functionality must be guaranteed, but every practice – whether a dentist’s, a surgery or a vet’s – should offer visitors and staff a pleasant environment. It is also evident that the chosen floor covering is extremely cost-effective thanks to its quick and easy cleaning during normal operations.”
