" This is a bonus for tenants, as the floors do not require any special maintenance. Overall, the floor is much more hard-wearing, even against scratches. " – Stefan Alexander Singer

Robert Bosch Wohnungsgesellschaft has, for the first time, used design floor coverings from objectflor instead of parquet flooring in its new buildings in the Schnallenäcker district of Renningen. Key factors in this decision included the practical properties of the floor coverings and the requirements for use in residential construction.

Just outside Stuttgart in the district of Böblingen, Robert Bosch Wohnungsgesellschaft has built a new residential complex. The 52 flats, totalling around 4,600 square metres, are situated in the Schnallenäcker development in Renningen. The flats are characterised by large balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows. All units are wheelchair-accessible and fitted with walk-in showers.

Designer flooring instead of parquet

For the first time, Robert Bosch Wohnungsgesellschaft has fitted new living spaces not with parquet, but with vinyl design flooring. The choice fell on a light oak-effect finish from objectflor’s LIVING+ residential collection. The Light Classic Oak design (item number 8008) is characterised by a warm wood tone and a classic oak look. The design flooring has been installed in all living areas, including the open-plan kitchens. This creates a consistent floor design across the various living areas.

Practical features in residential construction

Stefan Alexander Singer, Technical Director at Robert Bosch Wohnungsgesellschaft, describes the experience with objectflor flooring from the tenants’ perspective:

“This is a real benefit for tenants, as the floors require no special care. Furthermore, there is no damage caused by overflowing plant pots or when children drop things. Overall, the floor is much more hard-wearing, even against scratches.”

According to Singer, the floors have been well received by the tenants: “The tenants are happy!”

Lighting conditions were also a factor in the selection process. With floor-to-ceiling windows, plenty of daylight floods into the rooms. The chosen flooring solution was therefore also assessed with this in mind.

Benefits for the housing sector

The practical properties of a floor covering also play an important role for the housing sector. Damaged planks can be replaced selectively under suitable installation conditions. This can simplify repairs in the event of damage or when tenants move out.

Stefan Alexander Singer also cites the installation process as an advantage during the construction phase: “Installation is much quicker, which saves time and money. Because the floors are so hard-wearing, there is largely no need for time-consuming protective measures during the remainder of the construction period.”

Compatibility with underfloor heating was also a key factor in the selection process. Singer explains: “With underfloor heating, the shrinkage and expansion of parquet can cause larger gaps to form, which can be unsightly.”

When laying design flooring over underfloor heating, the relevant technical specifications for the product and the subfloor must be followed. Provided the flooring is laid correctly, it can be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
