" Loose-lay designer flooring instead of carpets: At the Ellington Hotel Berlin, the modernisation was carried out using designer flooring from objectflor whilst the hotel remained open. "

The elegance of the Golden Twenties is a hallmark of the Ellington Hotel Berlin. Housed in a listed building with corridors stretching over 100 metres, the Ellington is a modern design hotel offering 285 rooms and suites. For a hotel of this size, renovating the floors is a project in which both the choice of new flooring and its installation must be carefully planned.

Until then, the rooms and corridors had been fitted with carpet. The management decided to use design flooring in future. With their wide range of designs and practical installation properties, design floors are suitable for a variety of requirements in the hospitality sector.

The right choice for efficient installation

“We initially fitted three showrooms,” reports Jana Bieder, who managed the project on behalf of the wholesale company “Gustav Knittel Farben”. “As well as assessing the visual impact of the designs across the floor, we also had to decide whether a permanently bonded or a loose-lay design flooring would be better suited to the requirements.”

Several factors tipped the balance in favour of objectflor’s loose-lay flooring: the flooring’s construction enhances the room’s acoustics. Furthermore, individual planks can be removed and replaced as and when required. Another advantage was the ability to install the flooring without full-surface bonding, thereby streamlining the renovation process.

In total, around 8,000 square metres of the ‘Blond Rustic’ design flooring from the EXPONA SIMPLAY collection (item no. 2507) were used.

In addition to the product’s properties, a key factor for Jana Bieder was that objectflor could support the desired installation process with precisely cut inlays. The room numbers integrated into the flooring could thus be fitted into the corridors in accordance with the plans.

The inlays are just as eye-catching there as the combination of carpet and light oak finish. The red runners complement the design concept and help to reduce the noise from heels and wheeled suitcases. At the same time, they echo the hotel’s historic charm.
