Fitness First My Zeil: Dynamic floor design for the training area

Large, clearly laid-out spaces guide visitors through the club: Fitness First’s corporate architecture is presented in an open and innovative way in the newly designed club at Frankfurt’s ‘My Zeil’ shopping centre. The concept was devised by the design and planning agency Heckhaus, which developed Fitness First’s current architectural identity – including for the ‘Platinum’ club format as a premium studio.

Fitness First’s new ‘Freestyle’ training concept also shapes the design of the sports areas. In a spacious area in the centre of the club, the focus is on group training featuring movement sequences from everyday life – with comparatively little use of traditional weights and equipment.

The spacious Freestyle training area is structured by different flooring surfaces. Black, grey and bright green areas mark out different usage zones and are complemented by typographic elements such as ‘Start’ or ‘freestyle training’.

The KAYAR rubber flooring from the ARTIGO collection in the colour K21 was used for the walkways. A distinctive feature is the irregularly incorporated coconut fibre fragments, which give the surface a striking texture. KAYAR was designed by the design studio Sottsass Associati and is distributed exclusively in Germany by objectflor. Right at the entrance to the training area, the flooring adds a sporty touch: white-painted lines on the grey rubber flooring evoke the look of a tartan track.

The EXPONA DESIGN wood-effect flooring, with its expressive grain, provides a design contrast to this. It has been installed around the reception desk as well as in the lounge and cardio areas.

The wood-effect finish captures the look of natural wood and combines it with the product-specific properties of a design flooring. With a wear layer of 0.7 mm, EXPONA DESIGN is designed for high-traffic commercial areas and is therefore also suited to the demands of a fitness centre.

The interplay between the rubber flooring, the wood-effect finish and the colour-coded training areas makes the flooring an integral part of the design concept and supports the clear zoning of the club.
