" With this unique practice concept, it was important to us to find a floor that simply offered a completely different look. " – Christoph Unzen, interior designer at the Unzen architectural practice in Mönchengladbach

Innovative materials, more light and carefully chosen colour accents: the refurbishment of the Deußen + Seidler orthodontic practice in Mönchengladbach has resulted in a varied interior design concept. The EXPONA FLOW flooring from objectflor forms part of the new design.

One unusual detail perfectly encapsulates the playful use of different materials in the practice: a wall covered in bristles references the theme of brushing teeth, which plays an important role in orthodontics. Across the approximately 160 square metres, a variety of materials and textures come together. These include oak slats, exposed concrete finishes, upholstered wall coverings in blue fabric and the individually arranged bristles. The latter originate from an industrial product and were specially adapted by the manufacturer for the wall design.

Making a big impression: Expona Flow by objectflor

Whilst searching for new design ideas, interior designer Christoph Unzen from the Unzen architectural practice in Mönchengladbach came across the EXPONA FLOW flooring collection by objectflor.

“It was important to us, for this unique practice concept, to find a floor that simply offered a completely different look.”

He opted for the ‘Infinity’ design, whose pattern is reminiscent of traditional textiles and woven floor coverings. The design avoids rigid lines, favouring instead a soft, organic-looking appearance. Laying the flooring in strips creates a largely continuous floor surface. The technical properties of the flooring also play a role in its use within a medical practice. EXPONA FLOW features a PUR surface coating. Depending on the product version and technical specifications, this facilitates the cleaning and maintenance of the flooring. The specific requirements for installation, cleaning and use in medical areas must be taken into account in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

However, the focus of the design for the Deußen + Seidler practice was on the new look: “The fresh look of the new concept has gone down very well with patients,” says Christoph Unzen, summarising the result of the redesign. “And everyone wants to feel the bristles on the wall.”
