Anyone involved in fashion and design needs an inspiring environment. The fashion studio at Macromedia University in Hamburg is just such a place, fitted out with the design-focused POLYFLOR BLOC collection from objectflor.

Around 900 students are enrolled at Macromedia’s Hamburg campus. Through state-recognised degree programmes, they prepare for careers in media, management and creative professions, with a project-based and practical approach. For the Fashion Design course, the private university has had an area on the ground floor of the building fitted out as a workshop. Wide façade windows provide plenty of natural light at the students’ sewing and drawing tables and allow passers-by to look over the shoulders of the budding designers as they work. In this way, the bright and welcoming fashion studio becomes a showcase for the university.

A design statement in light grey
Across an area of 320 square metres, a design-oriented PVC floor creates the right atmosphere. The POLYFLOR BLOC collection from objectflor features a slightly textured surface without detracting from the impact of the colours. Denise Pischel, the project manager responsible for the painting and flooring work at Fritz Schuchardt Malermeister GmbH, emphasises that the installation was a masterpiece of craftsmanship: “The area featured a wide variety of substrates, including raised floors, screed and even marble. This meant that extensive and meticulous preparatory work was required before we could lay this stylish flooring.”

Durable, easy to maintain and suitable for recycling

With its 0.7-millimetre-thick, fully through-coloured wear layer, this heterogeneous floor covering is designed to withstand the heavy wear and tear of everyday life at a creative university. The high-quality PUR surface finish ensures protection and excellent maintenance properties.

POLYFLOR BLOC has been awarded the ‘Indoor Air Comfort Gold’ certificate. This certificate confirms compliance with defined requirements regarding the flooring’s VOC emissions. The collection, manufactured in the UK, contains 10 per cent recycled material and is 100 per cent recyclable.

The technical properties and the use of recycled material support the Macromedia University’s material concept and are in keeping with the requirements of a contemporary design.
