Interior architect Monika Lepel from Cologne sums up the specific requirements of an orthopaedic clinic very succinctly: “This is a place where we seek to restore movement and the joy of living.”

The Orthoparc Clinic focuses in particular on hip and knee prosthetics, as well as foot, knee, shoulder, and vertebral column surgical procedures, and a special feature of the design was the fact that the highest level of medical treatment was so successfully combined in the ambience of a hotel. On the one hand, the design and fittings of the rooms should promote the healing process, while on the other the patients are encouraged to move in a safe environment. The concepts of this “Rapid Recovery” were integrated at a very early stage of the planning.

Together with the essential functionality, the selection of colours, materials, and surfaces, undertaken with fine sensitivity, offsets the clinical environment, as well as achieving high quality with regard to accommodation and safety.  Surprising and lively colour combinations, based on an underlying sense of empathy and friendliness, help convey comfort and energy to the patients, restoring pleasure in life as well as giving encouragement. The design flooring EXPONA DESIGN from objectflor, in the colours 6184 and 6183, make a major contribution to this. The overall appearance draws inspiration from a photo-technical reproduction, while a transparent wear layer of 0.7 millimetres and PU-finish applied during production make the floor particularly hard-wearing and easy to clean.
