The Aquis Grana Hotel in Aachen needed to be renovated whilst still remaining open for guests. Instead of using carpets, the hotel has opted for oak-effect vinyl flooring from objectflor, which are as quiet as textile floorings.

Opened in 1982, the centrally appointed 4-star Aquis Grana in Aachen is a popular hotel among weekend city-breakers and corporate guests. It features 98 guest rooms, including several spacious suites. Following a guest room refit eight years ago, the first phase of the current project involved the renovation of 25 bedrooms. The remaining rooms will follow in different phases throughout the year. The interior design concept is the work of the internal design team of the locally operating ABZ Group, to which the hotel belongs. Inspired by the pale shades of typical Scandinavian interiors, guest rooms have been designed to be peaceful and welcoming. "The beautiful flooring plays a key role in the new bedroom design," explains Revenue Manager Giorgos Elefantis. "It makes everything look very light and modern. That's exactly what we aimed to achieve."

One design two different collections

White, pale blue and green are the prevailing colours, together with greyish shades of beige. This matches objectflor's pale, timelessly elegant oak-effect flooring that we have installed throughout. Designers selected the Natural Brush Oak design from the EXPONA SIMPLAY ACOUSTIC CLIC collection, which brings two significant benefits to the renovated guest rooms. Firstly, the patented click-together system enables the flooring to be laid relatively easily, without the use of glue. Secondly, the sound-proofing underlay that is fixed to the click-together system significantly reduces noise, and with a sound reduction level of 20 dB, is equivalent to textile floorings. Bathrooms have been fitted with the Natural Brushed Oak design, although the hotel opted for glued flooring from the EXPONA DOMESTIC collection here. With a thickness of only 2 mm, these planks avoided the need to rip up the old bathroom floor tiles. Combining these two collections facilitated the renovation of the guest rooms and fulfilled the hotel's aim to create a homogeneous, barrier-free flooring design.
