Innovative materials, more light, and with the emphasis on colour: When it came to making modifications at an orthodontist practice in Mönchengladbach, the interior architects did something daring – and won. The new EXPONA FLOW floor covering from objectflor is a part of the concept.

One particular witty detail puts the finger on the design concept involving different materials at the orthodontist practice of Deussen + Seidler in Mönchengladbach: A wall covered with bristles makes a jokey reference to the issue of teeth cleaning, which is a topic that comes up every day, in every orthodontist practice. Viewed as a whole, the interior design of the 160 square metres of the practice takes a fresh approach to the use of different materials and textures: The eye is caught by panels of oak, ornamental concrete features, padded wall claddings made of blue materials, and, of course, the bristles, which are a genuine industrial product, and rendered in this form of wall design by the manufacturers as an entirely individual creation.

When looking for new design ideas, interior architect Christoph Unzen from the Unzen architectural agency in Mönchengladbach came across the new EXPONA FLOW Collection of floor coverings from objectflor.  “It was important for us, with this particular practice concept, also to find a floor which would quite simply give us a completely different look.” He decided on the “Infinity” décor (Article No. 9868 Firelight), which is particularly reminiscent of traditional textiles and woven floor coverings. This design is particularly characterized by the avoidance of stringent straight lines in favour of a softer, organic image. The particular effect in this context is further enhanced by the fact that the floor covering is almost seamless when laid.

This is an added bonus in the health care sector, since the enclosed covering surface, spread over many square metres, means that the Collection fulfils the priority requirement for best possible hygiene. As well as this, a particularly high quality PUR enhancement makes EXPONA FLOW resistant to stains, resistant to contamination, very easy to clean, and also ensures a certain resistance to chemicals. But for the overall creation at the Deussen + Seidler practice it was the unique design which was undoubtedly the real winner: “The fresh look of the new concept has been received really well by the patients”, is how Christoph Unzen summarises the outcome of the alteration work. “And everybody wants to feel the bristles on the wall.”
